Pads play sounds: Bank A is the drum kit, B bass notes, C chords and D lead notes, all built from the current style (keyboard: 1234 / QWER / ASDF / ZXCV). Bass, chord and lead pads sustain for as long as you hold them; drums play once per tap. Turn on Overdub while playing to record pad hits into the loop. Track Mute, Genre (press again for page 2) and Style turn the pads into selectors; press a bank button to go back to playing.
Browse lists every genre and style.
Q-Links: drag up and down or scroll; double click to reset. Tempo rewrites setcpm; Filter, Crush and Space add a master effects line to the end of the code.
CODE / SPLIT / ROLL (under the screen) switch the screen between the code, the code plus a live piano roll, or the piano roll alone. Editing the roll: click to add a bar, drag to move it, drag its right edge to change length, right click (or long press on a touch screen) to delete, click a lane name to zoom in, hold Shift to turn off snapping. With the keyboard, Tab to the roll: arrows move a cursor, Enter adds or removes a note, - and + change its length, Page Up and Page Down change lane. The first edit on a layer rewrites it as an explicit step pattern. Export MIDI downloads the 4-bar loop as a multi-track .mid (drums on channel 10 with General MIDI drum notes) for your MPC or DAW. Import MIDI (or drop a .mid on the screen) adds its first 4 bars as new layers. MIDI In lets a controller play the pads with velocity (press it again to turn it off; it stays on between visits). To link a Q-Link to a controller knob, right click it, long press it, or focus it and press L, then turn the controller knob; do the same again to unlink. Tap Tempo: tap four or more times in time. Full Level makes every layer play at full volume, like the MPC button of the same name.
Save (Ctrl+S) keeps the project in this browser, and its light means there are unsaved changes. Load (Ctrl+O) lists your saved projects and imports or exports .mpclab.json files for backup or another device; Load Last reopens whatever you had open last time. Share Link (in Load) copies a link with the whole project in it; whoever opens it chooses whether to load it. In SEQ, the song's Record plays it once from the top into Takes and MIDI downloads the whole arrangement. Takes are kept in this browser until you delete them. Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Shift+Z outside the code) step through every change, including New and opening a project.
